PORTLAND GOODIES A-HOY

Well we are in Portland OR now. And here are some sweet deal we found for our apartment.

A sweet 1938 sunbeam model t-9 toaster American made (cord cut but easily replaced) Beautiful art deco styling, first displayed at the 1939 World's Fair. Chromed unit with black Bakelite handles and trim. Unique incised design with a faceted glass jewel that lights up on the front when the coils heat.Value is around $75 - $400. We paid......$1!!!

This is an old Steamer Trunk from back in the day (between 1892-1930, not sure) I've been looking for one of these lovelies for awhile to make something sweet out of but they have always been about $50 - $300. I got it for $25 on criagslist. It needs some work, but its HUGE.

This is my new desk and Chair. The Chair is a T Desk Chair by West Elm and price is about $250 new. I got it for $20 practically new. It was a display item in a model home and has never been used.
The Desk is a Heywood Wakefield student desk from the (1950-1959) and averages around $1000 to $1400! I got it.....FOR FREE. A buddy of my boyfriends found it on the curb spray painted black. He sanded most of it down and all we had to do was stain and poly it and it was ours. Its not in tip top condition but still and damn sweet desk. I've started upholstering the shelves but need some supplies to finish them.
Got this the same place as the chair. Not sure the date/price or anything but thought it was really awesome. Got it for $20, pretty sure its worth more then that. Its solid steel and glass.

Plush You olympic challenge....plush, Catagory: Figure Skating ( I GOT THE BRONZE!!!)

Name: Double take

Size: Height = 17"

length = 15"
Materials = misc fabric, faux fur, hand painted face on canvas, poly fill stuffing

He's a little tricky one. He's double sided, so it looks like 2 plushes, but it is just one. Each side pulling off a different figure skating move. The mirror pictures help show it.
The top is silky pink with glitter (that got everywhere) the pants and horns, although they appear more brown in the picture, are a nice plum with pink pinstripes, and faux fur trim. He's meant to hang from the ceiling, so as he spins you can see both sides.

New Deer

My latest creation. Had to hand sew most of this guy. its about 12 - 13 inches tall tip of antler to feet.

ITS BEGUN!

This is my deer prototype. still some kinks to work out but all in all I'm happy with it. The eyes are even custom! A buddy of mine made me a mould of the size eye I wanted and now I can pour and make my own! The plan is to make some cool irises and what have you. More to come...

The deer is about 13 inches tall and 6 inches wide.

The Other New Thing

Thought I'd use some of the left over Faux leather and give my sketch book a re-vamping. I designed and screen printed the little bird on some linen I had. It's not as tight as I'd like but again not bad for my first time making a book binding I'd say. =)

Trying new things

First for my Mothers christmas present I refinished and re-upholstered an old wooden love seat that has been in our family for some time. (first time ever taking on something like this, wanted to smash the thing half way through)
I looked up some of the characteristics of the seat and its over 200 years old. It was stuffed with horse hair and hay. The horse hair kind of freaked me out a little and I wore gloves to take it out. It was originally stained a lovely cherry, but I sanded that all off and re stained it with a hickory. Some of the cherry shows through though with I think gives it a nice red/purple-ish tint. Below are some pictures. Not bad for my first furniture refurbishing I'd say.
Sadly the After pics were taken at my mothers house where the lighting is not that great.

Here is a Back detail, Its a faux impressed brown leather.

This is a better image of the actual color of the material.
